Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) Tests
San Juan Basin Public Health’s clinic in Durango and Pagosa Springs provides La Plata and Archuleta Counties with sexual health services like STI testing, STI treatment and partner treatment, Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis also known as PrEP (HIV prevention medications), and annual exams with breast and cervical cancer screening. Details about each services are listed in the tabs below.
SJBPH's Sexual Health Clinic provides confidential counseling and testing. Patients and providers work together to assess risk criteria and determine which STI tests are indicated. Tests that can be completed at SJBPH include: HIV, chlamydia, gonorrhea, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, human papillomavirus (HPV), herpes, and syphilis.

Those without insurance have access to discounted rates for testing.

San Juan Basin Public Health provides confidential STI/STD counseling and testing for HIV, chlamydia, gonorrhea, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, human papilloma virus (HPV), syphilis, herpes, and trichomoniasis.
If you are uninsured chlamydia, gonorrhea, HIV, syphilis, and Hepatitis C tests are free with a low-cost visit fee. Treatment options are available on site for chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, herpes, and trichomoniasis. We also provide vaccinations for HPV as well as Hepatitis A and B.

Mammograms & Pap Tests
Free mammogram referrals and pap tests are available at San Juan Basin Public Health for those who qualify. See if you qualify (many people do).
We believe in supporting a patient’s health through preventative screenings. The Women’s Wellness Connection (WWC) is a program offered at SJBPH that provides well woman exams including free breast and cervical cancer screenings, diagnostic testing, and health navigation for women who are uninsured, underinsured, or low-income. This service is available regardless of documentation status. Everyone should have access to healthcare with prevention and early detection of breast and cervical cancer allowing them to live healthy and prosperous lives.
For those who do not qualify for the Women’s Wellness Connection program, SJBPH also accepts private insurance including Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare, Cigna, Rock Mountain Health Plans, UMR, and Medicaid. Your health insurance should cover preventative screenings at 100%, meaning: no cost for you.

Walk-in "Plan B" emergency contraception is available most days.
Medicaid covers the cost at 100% and other insurances should cover the cost as well. The cost is $12 for those uninsured. If you are able, call ahead.
Have Medicaid or Health First Colorado? You can get Plan B for free. Just go up to the pharmacy counter to ask for the medication through your insurance.
Walk-in pregnancy tests are available most days.

Long-acting contraceptives (IUDs, hormonal arm implants) are no longer offered at SJBPH.
Axis Health Systems can provide same-day or next-day services for birth control at no cost as the Title X provider for La Plata and Archuleta Counties. Please contact them directly and inform them if it is for urgent or emergency birth control needs.

There are many locations in Durango and Pagosa to access birth control services. In addition to Primary Care Providers (PCPs) the clinics below accept people with insurance, and provide discounted care for those who are uninsured.
SJBPH’s medical providers prescribe PrEP, a daily HIV prevention medication. We also provide ongoing lab testing, STI testing, and monitoring for those on PrEP.
